More 'shout outs' from baghdad
The other day, Captain Matt Pike, commander, C. Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, was watching Fox News when the newscaster commented that it was 102 degrees in Texas.
“102!” exclaimed Pike. “I wish we had some weather like that around here; that would be great,” he added.
Temperatures in Baghdad run about 115 to 122 degrees during the day, with a humidity that’s not far behind. And at night, the mercury drops to a cool 85 to 90 degrees.
I’ll be moving to Mosul on Saturday to begin reporting on the rest of the brigade. Hopefully, Internet connections will be better and I can keep you better posted on what your loved ones want to say to you. And by the way, a lot of them asked me to tell you to keep the care packages coming.
And last, be proud of these men and women, and let them know it. I’ve been on a number of missions with them, and they are doing a fantastic job in a very tough environment.
Now, to some shout outs. — J.M. Simpson
- “I want my son, Jacob, to know that I will be home soon and that I love him.” — Sgt. Erik Stark
- “To my friends in Roy; it’s hot here. And I miss you all at Roy’s Bar and Grill.” — Spc. John Orebaugh
- “We’re gonna win this thing.” — Spc. Mark Saults
- “Candace, I love you and I miss you.” — Sgt. Steven Miller
- “I want to say ‘hello’ to my wife, Dara, and that I will be home as soon as I can.” — Pfc. Chase Breshears
- “I want to say to my wife, Teresa and our daughters, Tayla and Terah, that I love you and miss you and will see you all soon.” — Staff Sgt. Michael Ewing
