J.M. Simpson in Iraq
A Heads Up
I presently have the chance to post another blog, so I thought I would let you know what I’ve been up to.
As my earlier blogs have indicated, I have been embedded with Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment. These soldiers are currently serving at a Command Outpost, or COP, outside of Baghdad.
It’s a rather barebones operation, but it does have the advantage of keeping us off Forward Operating Base (FOB) Falcon. As one soldier put it, “It’s nice to be away from the flagpole.” I agree.
The days are long, hot and … at times … dangerous. But the morale is good and the generosity shown to me genuine. I have managed to send back a story and some images I hope you like.
I can’t always report back to you as much as I would like, and there is possibility that I may not be able to report back at all once Alpha Company relocates to another COP. Please bear in mind, it isn’t that I don’t want to write to you; rather, it is that I am here to write about and photograph these soldiers … wherever they go. And if they go where there is no Internet – you see my point?
Be that as it may, I will continue to do my best to get images and blogs out to you.
