Terror talk

Brig. Gen. Neil Dial, deputy director of Intelligence for U.S. Central
Command gave a briefing titled “War on Terror” to the City Club of Tacoma and
Military Affairs Committee of the Tacoma Chamber of Commerce, today.
Some of the highlights were:

• There are some countries that have more than 50 percent unemployment in the 15 to 29 age range making this demographic more susceptible to become terrorists.   
• Another major concern is the lack of drinking water.
• Dial mentioned that Afghanistan must grow more than narcotics. He also said that Afghan will become a part of NATO at the end of this month.
• Dial said during World War II, updates from the war came via the movie theaters, often weeks after events happened.  Today’s media and technology is immediate.  The population witnesses bombing via television that the government isn’t aware of yet.
• Dial spoke about how terrorists have yet to take out a platoon- or squad-sized unit, therefore they can not defeat our military.  They continue to work on the will of the American people using the media.
• On July 13, the first province in Iraq was turned over to Iraq. They are running their own government, police, and security. 

Dial mentioned that it takes a network to defeat a network, which is why terrorists ultimate goal is a United States of Islam. This is at least a hundred years away. — Tommy Carson
